A “Rescued Dog
or Cat” Is A Great Choice!
So, the question remains, should Good Samaritans
rescue homeless pets from local animal control
facilities and shelters? And the answer is a
resounding YES!
Whether you
gravitate to a pedigree or prefer a mutt, animal
control facilities and local rescues can be
the very best place to find your loyal companion.
Rescue organizations, humane societies, and
animal control facilities - yes, “the pound”
- are places of compassion and the staff care
deeply about the future of each pet that arrives
stressed and fearful.
Usually when a
family decides to adopt a pet they’ll check
the local pet store & call on a large number
of animals posted in the newspaper - routinely
overlooking their local animal control facility
and shelters.

MEET MANNIE!
Mannie is currently staying at One of A Kind
Pet Rescue
I am a love bug and a pleaser. I came is
shaking like a leaf but in a few short days,
these people have assured me that I can
trust and I am worthy of love. Check out
my picture ... I'm a good-looking boy and
I only have "kind bones" in my body. They
think I may be part collie; however, they
really do not know what I am made of. Does
it really matter since I am the best dog
ever? The truth is, I am a Heinz 57 ...
meaning I probably have 57 breeds in me!
Now through his quarantine period, he is
ready to experience love and security in
the safe arms of a committed owner and to
meet his "forever home and family." Never
to be orphaned again!!!
UPDATED: 07-12-10
Mannie has made major improvements. He is
very friendly and playful. We think he was
miss-handled by small children. We would
like to see him go with a family who's children
are at least 12 years old. Otherwise Mannie
is ready to be loved and not fear life in
a good loving , secure home. He was not
treated very well in his old life. Those
individuals should be ashamed of themselves.
Come meet Mannie. Take him for a walk at
our near by park.
Mannie is up-to-date with routine shots,
house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Moka
Mommy Moka was rescued with babies Lizzy, Ted and
John Wayne by some kind people. All the babies have
been adopted. Now it's mommy's turn. She's looking
for a happily ever after home. Hopefully, this courtesy
post from PAWS will help.
Moka is the absolute sugar sweetest small gray girl
who loves to be queen of the castle. She is a super
affectionate, very people oriented cat who much
prefers human companionship to other animals. She
would sit on your lap and cuddle constantly if allowed.
She does not get along well with dogs. If she absolutely
must share with another cat, she will but Moka strongly
prefers the company of humans to other felines.
Add some love to your life with this
sweet girl.

Meet Mommy
Maria!
Maria is an adult kitty, about 4 or 5 years old.
She was rescued from the outdoors with her kittens,
and once they were weaned she was a foster mom to
another orphaned litter. She is a GREAT mom!
She is a very affectionate sweet girl who would
sit in your lap and cuddle all day if you let her.
She is also so playful and comical that her foster
mom has nick-named her "Monkey."
We don't know what she went through before we found
her, but x-rays show that she once had a broken
jaw, and has permanent damage to her sinus cavities.
This causes her to have more drainage than most
cats do, and makes her a little more prone to sinus
infections ( which are easily cured with antibiotics
).
If you are willing to provide Maria with
the extra TLC she needs, she will reward you with
so much love and companionship--she'll be the best
friend you ever had! Maria gets along great with
other cats, in fact she would love a feline playmate!

Meet Sammy
and Shylo!
A good “quality of life” is important to all living
beings. Just as modern medicine has extended life
expectancies of human beings, veterinary medicine
has done the same for our furry friends. As with
people, a pet living with a specific medical condition
does not mean the pet is living with illness.
Sammy & Shylo, as well as several of their feline
friends, are living with a “condition” that requires
no special care. They will most likely live as long
as any other cat and will offer the same fun-loving
behaviors. They don’t have any limitations. Sammy’s
favorite trick is to leap from the floor into your
arms with a simple hand signal and sweet Shylo’s
favorite place will, no doubt, be in your warm lap.
Just as all animals are worthy of love and security
in a safe home environment, cats and dogs living
with a manageable “condition” are no less deserving.
Sadly, these pets are often overlooked as flawed.
As this population continues to grow in number at
the shelter, space remains occupied with these precious
animals and can slow down the process of rescuing
even more homeless pets.
If you are interested in Sammy or Shylo or any of
the other amazing “special needs” pets awaiting
their forever home, please visit the adoption center.

Hi, I'm Jim!
My real name
is Bow Slider and my call name was Caesar. I go
by Jim in Ohio now - it's my retirement name! I
was in a foster home for a few weeks with another
greyhound and was a good boy. I don't like cats
very much but am a very sweet boy. I was born May
1, 2003. Please come visit me soon at Greyhound
Adoption of Ohio!
www.GreyHoundAdoptionofoh.org
Greyhound Adoption of Ohio is the largest (based
on number of dogs placed) and oldest (based on incorporation
date) greyhound adoption organization in the state
of Ohio . At the time of our inception, in 1993,
greyhounds were rarely seen in Ohio. Today, you'll
see greyhounds nearly everywhere you go! The word
is out! Greyhounds make WONDERFUL pets! GAO receives
dogs from numerous tracks around the country, but
primarily from Florida , Wisconsin and Kansas .
We generally have 20-30 dogs awaiting placement
at any given time. Upon arrival at GAO, each dog
is neutered, vaccinated, checked for parasites,
heartworm tested, microchipped and has a complete
dental cleaning.
Meet May!
We often depend on labels to inform us of the ingredients
in a food product before ingesting it. And, labels
are helpful when cleaning a garment that may require
special attention. Imagine if we were required to
walk around with a label listing information about
ourselves ... mine might inaccurately state my dislike
for dogs and yours may truthfully declare your love
for kittens! With truthful information provided,
labels can be helpful; however, labels can be hurtful
when stating misinformation.
May is at risk
of being labeled. Her terrier heritage could limit
her chances for a “forever home.” Her lack of hearing
could imply she is “handicapped.” And, her broken
leg may be viewed as “less than perfect.”
Having seen little May hit by a car, a panicked
Good Samaritan immediately brought her into One
of A Kind Pets. Covered in road rash, experiencing
pain, and unable to use her front arm, this sweet
puppy wagged her tail when approached to be evaluated
for her injuries. After assessment of her condition,
it was apparent that she would require medical intervention.
Secondly, it was determined that May is deaf and,
no-doubt, could not hear the approaching car.
Now on the mend, this beautiful little girl
awaits a home that will offer her love, compassion,
and protection for the rest of her days. Just as
we refrain from labeling each other, let’s not label
little May. Note: deaf dogs can be taught sign language.
If you are interested in giving May a home,
or would like to make a tax-deductable donation,
call 330.865.6200. Checks can be made payable to:
One of A Kind Pet Rescue. Notation: Clancy’s Critical
Care Fund (funding critically needed surgeries for

Sox
is a Special Fellow!
Sox is an older guy, about 6 or 7 years old. When
he was found, his face was swollen and bloody, and
he had some broken teeth. He was so ill, that at
first we thought he had been poisoned. He is healthy
now, but whatever happened to him has made him very,
very timid and shy. He does take a long time to
warm up to people.
If you are willing to be patient and gentle with
him, and gain his trust, he will reward you by being
an affectionate cat who is talkative when you talk
to him, loves to be combed, will lay on his back
to have his belly rubbed, and follow you around
like a puppy.
He gets along with other cats, but he is extremely
submissive and should be around older cats.
He is afraid of dogs.
If interested in this special guy, Sox, please complete
an application at

Affectionate, Independent Italian
Beauty Seeks Soulmate.
Tortalina
(not a very creative name, but she is Italian )
was found in the woods near a condominium complex
on 04/28/08 after brief sightings for over 8 months.
She is a strong, independent kitty who was able
to brave winter blizzards and outdoor elements before
being rescued by a kind samaritan. According to
the vet, she had nursed a litter of kittens. Although
we were unable to locate them, Tortalina kept returning
to us in search of human companionship and home.
Tortalina's a complete love to her foster mom. She
snuggles on her, drapes her body over her neck and
plays perfectly on her own. She doesn't always play
well with other kitties and can be a bit skittish
so she should go to a peaceful home without other
cats or children. She's friendly, playful, and purrs
for all your affection.
Tortalina is a gorgeous diluted tortie, with
a mostly dark grey fluffy coat with peach markings.
She has been through so much and deserves a wonderful
forever person or family to adore her. Tortalina
is a courtesy posting, and PAWS is helping her find
a purrmanent home.

Meet Lanna!
Hi, I'm Lanna (Goodbye Lanna). I was born in March
2003. I was a great racer - I had 104 races! But
I'm ready to settle down now....and I'm looking
for a new home. I'm a very sweet black girl who
did well with cats. Will you come visit soon at

Lovable
Lily!
Cruelly abandoned by her owners when they moved,
Lovable Lily needs a new home now
Lucky for Lily, the owners of the rental home realized
something was strange when they found among the
trash left behind, a litter box, cat dishes and
toys. Even stranger, whenever they returned to work
on repairing and cleaning the house, the litter
box would've been used! They left out food-it would
be gone when they returned, but there was no kitty
in sight! After several weeks of no luck they finally
decided to borrow a humane trap and see if they
could find her that way. Fortunately, it worked!
Trapped in the cage was a scared but adorable young,
grey female who now needed a home fast. That's where
PAWS stepped in.
Now Lily is in a loving PAWS foster home reaping
the benefits that caring humans can provide. It
takes her a little time to trust but, once she does,
she's a sweet and affectionate little lap kitty
who will cuddle up to her foster parents and run
her little purr motor. Lily is about 12 months old,
spayed, tested and vaccinated. Lily is a little
territorial with other cats and dogs. She defends
her space but gets along with them after a time.
We also suggest a home with no small children as
she is a bit skittish. Please consider adopting
Lily and giving her a home where she'll never be
left behind ever again. She'll be your friend forever.
If interested lovely Lily, please complete
an application at
